Joy received her Pharm. D. from Mercer University in 1997, and her Georgia Master Gardener certification in 2008. Both reinforced her love for all things nature. Her Joyful Blossoms Facebook page showcases some highlights of her floral work and watercolor paintings. This has inspired her to recreate the “realism” of flowers using watercolors and specifically, watercolor pencils. Joy didn’t realize her potential as an artist until 2021 when a nerve injury, caused by a routine lab work blood draw, damaged the median nerve in her right arm. Her ability to paint with her LEFT hand is truly a miracle in the midst of a huge physical and functional trial. She is not able to write legibly with her left hand, yet God has allowed her to draw with incredible accuracy even still. Her paintings have been an inspiration to many, with numerous commissions requested in the last year. Her paintings have made their way to several states including Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio and Indiana in just a short time. As you enjoy her artwork, be reminded that even if your abilities seem limited, you CAN still do something amazing!
