Karen Spears Zacharias is an award-winning author of numerous books, both fiction and nonfiction. A former crime beat reporter, she has taught journalism at Central Washington University. Her commentary has appeared in the New York Times, Newsweek, and on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered. She’s a popular speaker at universities; civic, literary, and veterans events; and a vocal advocate for our nation’s military families. Karen serves on the national advisory board for the Vietnam Women’s Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Center, and the Virtual Wall. A Gold-Star daughter, Karen divides her time between her home in Deschutes County, Oregon, and her hometown of Columbus, Georgia.
