Photography has been my hobby since I borrowed a 35mm camera from high school in 1981 and shot my first roll of black and white film. I enjoyed it so much I bought a Pentax camera with the money I received for graduation later that year.
There’s something about capturing an image that is fascinating, thrilling, and humbling. That’s why the quote from the movie Kodachrome resonates with me so much. I never thought of myself as an artist because the title seemed daunting and a little frightening. As if I would have to live up to great artistic heights to pursue my work.
But being called a preservationist spoke to me. That’s what my photography has always been bout without my knowing it. I’m drawn to cemeteries, architecture, and all things weathered because there’s a romance, beauty, and nostalgia to it. So often society’s whims and fancies overlook the integrity of old and almost forgotten things.
My goal is to shine a light on them and highlight their beauty and value.
