Susan Dolan is originally from Barrington, Illinois and has been “doing art” since High School. She began her education in art when she earned a scholarship to attend the Art Institute of Chicago to study figure drawing. She then went on to earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa with majors in Painting and Graphic Design, and studied Drawing and Art History in Florence, Italy. Travels also took her to Seoul, Korea where she studied Oriental Brush Painting and Ceramics.
Since moving to Columbus, Georgia in 2001, Susan continued developing her body of work, building on the foundation of drawing, primarily using graphite pencil, colored pencils, and oil pastels. Susan’s oil paintings reflect her classical approach to viewing the world, taking advantage of her frequent travels as subjects for her work. Recent travels have taken her to England and France where she found wonderful subjects for her work. She has also enjoyed painting plein air in Columbus with its historical river views.
